    Workers’ Memorial Day Event

Philadelphia Workers’ Compensation Lawyers fight hard for injured workers throughout Pennsylvania. Attorneys from Galfand Berger, LLP recently participated in an important and meaningful event. The event was held on Friday, April 29th by Philaposh, a non-profit that focuses on worker safety and health. Dr. David Michaels, the United States Assistant Secretary of Labor, was  the keynote speaker.

The event was held to memorialize all fallen workers from 2014-2015. During the event, there was a reading of all the lost workers’ names as well as a placing of flowers in the Delaware River, reaffirming Philaposh’s “commitment to prevent injury, illness and death on the job”. Galfand Berger, LLP also honors this meaningful commitment. You can learn more about the event and its specific details here.

Workers’ Memorial Day is honored every year on April 28th and was created to commemorate the lives of workers who have died on the job. Interestingly, the date of Workers’ Memorial Day also coincides with the creation of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). OSHA is a federal organization that is committed to worker safety regulations and standards.

Galfand Berger, LLP attorney, Gabriela Rafulalso joined in paying respect to the hard-working men, women and families whose lives have been greatly altered by the losses they have suffered. Gabby was a speaker and participant at a second Workers’ Memorial Day event that was held on Saturday, April 30th.

Gabby, along with the United Community Services for Working Families, United Steelworkers Local 6996 as well as the United Labor Council of Reading joined forces to further honor and memorialize any and all workers whose lives were either lost or severely altered as a consequence of dangerous or sub-par working conditions and safety standards.

Gabby spoke about the issues that arise for workers when it comes to safety and health in the workplace. Gabby, a staunch advocate for workers’ rights, lent both her professional and personal experiences to the event and served as a reminder for the importance of valuing the lives of workers everywhere.
