  • Richard Jurewicz Appointed as Mediator to U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania

We are excited to announce that Senior Partner Richard Jurewicz has been appointed as a mediator for the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.

If you have questions about what mediation is, it is a form of alternative dispute resolution, or ADR, where a neutral third party – or aRick Blog Image July 2025 mediator – assists individuals or groups in finding a mutually acceptable solution. Unlike a judge or arbitrator who imposes a legal decision, mediators serve by facilitating communication and negotiation between parties, allowing them to come to an agreement among themselves. As a mediator for the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of PA, Richard will assist parties with resolution in a variety of civil cases.

The Eastern District of Pennsylvania court approves mediators through an extensive application process. The process requires detailed information on the applicant’s qualifications, which includes their education, relevant professional experience, training, and much more. Once accepted, the court adds the mediator’s name to a list of approved mediators. These mediators of the court must maintain their qualifications and uphold stringent ethical standards.

Since joining our team in 1984, he has secured an excess of 40 multi-million-dollar verdicts and settlements. Together, these decisions total over $250 million dollars. Rick handles Galfand Berger’s catastrophic product liability, construction accident and automobile injuries cases. Here are a few examples of his notable recoveries on behalf of injured clients and their families:

    • A confidential $36 million dollar settlement for three workers involved in a deadly workplace furnace explosion. The accident occurred when a large steel producing machine exploded, tragically killing one construction worker and inflicting severe burn injuries in two others. • A $12 million dollar settlement for a construction worker who was paralyzed after an occupational accident. Rick obtained a $12 million dollar pretrial settlement for a 22-year-old construction worker who fell from a third-floor apartment building to the ground below. The incident left the man a paraplegic. • Rick represented a 33-year-old plaintiff whose employer negligently failed to provide fall protection to prevent injury. While installing lateral bracing on the second-floor foyer of a house, the plaintiff plummeted 18 feet to the floor below. His extensive spinal injuries led to paraplegia; the plaintiff also sustained other significant injuries. Rick successfully procured an $8 million dollar settlement on the eighth day of the trial.
