  • Patrick Donan Receives Martha J. Hampton Award

Attorney Patrick Donan receives the Martha J. Hampton award for his work in Workers' Comp lawEvery year, the Workers’ Compensation Section of the Philadelphia Bar Association (PBA) presents the Martha J. Hampton award to an attorney or judge who best embodies the qualities that Martha held dear: a tenacious dedication to the ideals of Workers’ Compensation law and compassion for others. This year’s recipient of the award is attorney Patrick Donan.

The award is a tribute not only to its recipient but also to Martha, who was a Partner with our firm before she passed away. Galfand Berger Managing Partner, Debra Jensen, paid tribute to Martha at the award ceremony:

Martha Hampton was my dear friend and law partner.  Today is the first time I’ve spoken publicly about Martha since I gave the eulogy at her memorial service, so thank you for this very special opportunity.

Martha Hampton was a devoted attorney who wore a cowboy hat in law school, drove a sports car before it was popular, and had a photographic memory so powerful that she became my go-to law library.

Her quiet humility and fierce loyalty to her clients are qualities I’ve tried to emulate during my career.  If Martha had any idea there would be a special award named in her memory, she’d laugh and shake her head.  Martha would say she was simply doing her job.

Mr. Donan has practiced law in the state of Pennsylvania since 1988. He focuses his practice on Workers’ Compensation, including matters in Longshore and Harbor Compensation and Social Security Disability. Mr. Donan has also been certified as a Workers’ Compensation specialist by the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania. It is without doubt that Mr. Donan is a worthy recipient of the esteemed Martha J. Hampton award. Please join us in congratulating Mr. Donan for this noteworthy accomplishment!

In addition to the award, our firm makes a charitable donation to Kid’s Chance on behalf of the Workers’ Compensation Section to honor Martha and her memory each year. Kid’s Chance is a non-profit organization that provides direct support and scholarships to children and young teens who lost a parent or caretaker in a preventable workplace accident so that they can successfully obtain a higher education.
