We are proud to announce that five of our attorneys – Debra Jensen, Michael Malvey, Peter Patton, Richard Jurewicz, and Arthur Bugay – have been named as 2018’s National Trial Lawyers (NTL).
The NTL is an invitation-only organization. In order to be selected for inclusion, an attorney must have superior qualifications as a civil plaintiff or criminal defense trial attorney. Before being invited to join, a nominee must have good standing in several areas, like:
- Peer review (e.g. reputation among the judiciary, peers, and the public);
- Previous year’s achievements, verdicts, and settlements as a trial lawyer;
- Rankings by established organizations (e.g. Martindale-Hubbell, etc.), and:
- Membership and leadership with other national and state trial lawyer organizations
Galfand Berger’s National Trial Lawyers
Debra Jensen is Galfand Berger’s Managing Partner – a position that her peers unanimously elected her to in 1999. Debra represents victims of medical negligence and malpractice, and is also a staunch advocate for worker’s rights. Debra has represented the United Steelworkers in Federal labor and employment law cases, and is a frequent lecturer on the topic of discrimination in the workplace.
Peter Patton is an “AV” rated Martindale-Hubbell attorney (the “AV” rating is the highest one an attorney can receive from the organization) and a Senior Partner at the firm. He has published numerous articles, and holds membership to the Brain Injury Association. Throughout his decades of trial experience, Peter has obtained significant verdicts and settlements for his clients – many who were injured in construction accidents or by defective or unguarded machines.
After obtaining his law degree (with honors) from Temple University, Arthur Bugay went on to get two Master of Law degrees. Arthur’s practice areas include personal injury litigation, products’ liability litigation, and employment law. Arthur also received the George F. Douglas, Jr., Amicus award from the Pennsylvania Association for Justice, an award given to trial attorneys in recognition of their exceptional accomplishments and success in litigation.
Richard Jurewicz is a Senior Partner at Galfand Berger. Rick has successfully obtained some of the largest verdicts and settlements in the firm’s history. Rick represents clients who are victims of catastrophic construction, product, and automobile accidents. Some of his most notable recoveries include a $36 million dollar settlement for three workers who were in a furnace explosion. Rick is also an “AV” rated attorney by Martindale-Hubbell.
Michael Malvey first joined our team at Galfand Berger in 2002. As a Senior Partner, Mike handles a variety of case types. He has represented automobile accident victims, and practices premises liability litigation, products liability litigation, as well as medical malpractice litigation. Mike is proficient in Spanish and is Chairperson of the Board of Directors for Esperanza Immigration Legal Services, a non-profit organization that offers low-cost legal services to immigrants in the Philly area.
