  • Five Galfand Berger Attorneys Are 2019 Super Lawyers and Rising Stars!

Philadelphia Personal Injury Lawyers are honored to be named as 2019 Super Lawyers and Rising Star. Galfand Berger is pleased to announce that four of our firm’s attorneys – Debra Jensen, Norman Weinstein, Arthur Bugay, and Richard Jurewicz – are 2019 Super Lawyer honorees.  A fifth attorney, Bradley Smith, received a 2019 Rising Star honor.

What Are Super Lawyers and Rising Stars?

Super Lawyers is a well-known rating service of attorneys across more than 70 different practice areas throughout the country. Each candidate must undergo a stringent and multi-part selection process, which includes:

    • Nomination by lawyers familiar with their work
    • Review of multiple criteria, like: verdicts and settlements, honors/awards, special licenses/certifications, education/employment background, bar and other professional activities, pro bono and community service, scholarly lectures and published articles
    • Peer evaluation by other lawyers who sit on a “blue ribbon panel.” These attorneys select their colleagues based on the above criteria.

In the end, Super Lawyers only awards 5% of all Pennsylvania attorneys with this honor.  Moreover, only 2.5% of Pennsylvania attorneys, under the age 40 – or in practice less than 10 years – receive a Rising Star honor!  Learn more about the nomination and selection process here.

    Debra Jensen

This year marks Debra Jensen’s 20th year as the firm’s Managing Partner.  In her role, Debra exemplifies the firm’s values and core mission: to represent the needs and rights of injured individuals. Debra also handles the firm’s medical malpractice cases and products liability matters.  Most recently, the Disciplinary Board of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania appointed Debra as a Hearing Committee Member. Debra joins a group of distinguished attorneys who serve an important role in the governance and discipline of Pennsylvania attorneys.

    Richard Jurewicz

Rick has received an “AV” rating by Martindale-Hubbell, which is the highest rating an attorney can receive. Since joining Galfand Berger’s litigation team in 1984, Rick has worked his entire professional career with the firm, where he is a Senior Partner. He handles construction accident, catastrophic product liability, and automobile cases – and is responsible for achieving some of the largest verdicts and recoveries in the firm’s history.

As a trial attorney, Rick makes sure he fully understands the legal complexities of each case so he can provide clients with thorough and effective representation from start to finish.

    Arthur Bugay

Arthur is a Partner with our firm. He obtained his Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Economics – along with two Master of Law degrees (one in Trial Advocacy and the other in Taxation) from Temple University. Arthur handles personal injury and products liability matters.

Arthur received the George F. Douglas, Jr., Amicus award from the Pennsylvania Association for Justice. This award is given to PA trial attorneys who have excelled before the state’s highest courts. Arthur actively volunteers, such as by providing free-of-cost legal services through the Legal Clinic for the Disabled (LCD).

    Norman Weinstein

Norman Weinstein is Of Counsel at Galfand Berger.   Norm has been practicing Workers’ Compensation for over 36 years. Throughout his legal career, Norm has also done quite a bit of community service and pro bono legal work. Recently, Norman and his family traveled to Florida to help victims of Hurricane Michael, which was the strongest storm in the state to date.

Norm is the past President and the Philadelphia Volunteers for the Indigent Program (VIP) and the Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society, or HIAS. Norman offers free representation and legal counsel to in-need individuals through organizations like the Support Center for Child Advocates and others.

    Galfand Berger’s Rising Star Honoree

Bradley Smith, an Associate Attorney with our firm, represents injured consumers, workers, and negligence victims. Brad has won numerous essay contests, including the Pennsylvania Bar Association’s Workers’ Compensation Centennial Essay Contest in 2015, and the College of Workers’ Compensation Lawyers’ national writing competition in 2016.

Bradley is a staunch advocate for worker’s rights, and is part of a team of attorneys who have successfully brought about several multi-million dollar settlements for products liability and personal injury claimants. Currently, in addition to his hard work at Galfand Berger, Brad serves as an Editor for the PA Bar Association’s Civil Litigation Newsletter.
