  • Gabriela Raful Receives Pro Bono Award

Philadelphia Lawyers at Galfand Berger are proud to celebrate Gabriela Raful's PBA Pro Bono Award. We are proud to announce that the Pennsylvania Bar Association (PBA) will present Galfand Berger partner, Gabriela Raful, with the PBA’s Pro Bono Award on October 22nd.  Recipients of the Pro Bono Award are selected for providing volunteer legal services to indigent and disadvantaged individuals who are unable to afford critical legal representation in times of need.

Galfand Berger has always supported Gabriela’s pro bono work endeavors. Just last year, Gabby took on six pro bono Social Security Disability cases. Three of those cases have already successfully resolved, and she continues to litigate the others. When it comes to her commitment to providing pro bono support services, Gabby says, “Lawyers are blessed with the knowledge and ability to help. I feel morally obligated to provide pro bono representation.”

Despite having a full schedule between being a firm partner and a mother to her young son, Gabby never stops volunteering her time, efforts, or professional abilities. Gabby attends community events, health fairs, visits community centers, and has volunteered her time reading to students.  She has organized legal clinics on drafting Caregiver Designation Forms for undocumented immigrants with children. These forms officially name caretakers for children whose parents or guardians have been unexpectedly deported or detained. Gabby also serves on the Berks County Bar Association’s (BCBA) Board of Directors, and chairs the BCBA’s Minority Bar Section (and much more).

In 2017, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court appointed Gabby to the Monitoring and Evaluation Team of the Language Access Advisory Group for the United Judicial System of Pennsylvania. In her role, Gabby makes certain that the courts remain open to individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing or people who speak other languages.

Since the Pro Bono Award recognizes those who use their talents to help people in need and provide them with equal access to the justice system, it is no surprise that Gabriela was chosen. Attorneys like Gabby – who go above and beyond for individuals regardless of where they are from, what language(s) they speak, or how much money they have –make a world of difference in people’s lives.

Our firm is honored to have Gabriela as a partner and proud to announce that she is one of this year’s Pro Bono Award recipients. If you would like to learn more about the award or speak to Gabby or a member of her legal team, please contact our firm directly.
