On July 19, 2023, 37 people from 15 countries became U.S. citizens during a naturalization ceremony at the Berks County courthouse. Gabriela G. Raful, Senior Partner at Galfand Berger, had the opportunity to speak at the memorable event.
Gabby expressed her special interest in each of the new citizen’s remarkable journeys, having taken a similar one herself. Gabby immigrated to the United States from the Dominican Republic in 2005, and became a U.S. citizen a decade ago. She is the youngest and first racial minority, and the first naturalized citizen, to be elected President of the Berks County Bar Association.
At Wednesday’s ceremony, Gabby said America is born of immigrants, and that each citizen who took their oath should feel proud to be part of a tradition as old as our country itself. Some of their journeys are made in search of opportunity, some are based on love, and some are seeking safety and security.
