Contractor Killed in Fall at IMAX Theater in Reading
The city of Philadephia

A Florida contractor was killed after falling approximately 50 feet at the R/C Reading Movies 11 and IMAX on North 2nd Street in Reading. The contractor was working alone above the ceiling during theater renovations when he fell through a drop ceiling in the auditorium, the Berks County Coroner’s Office said.

Falls remain one of the leading causes of fatal construction and workplace accidents in Pennsylvania, particularly when contractors are working at elevated heights or around unfinished structures. Even when safety harnesses and fall-protection equipment are used, failures in anchoring systems, equipment defects, or inadequate safety procedures can lead to catastrophic outcomes.
