The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has released a recall on battery chargers used for Xbox One video game controllers. The affected model is called an Energizer Xbox One 2X Smart Charger. The product poses a burn injury to consumers because of a defect, which allows it to overheat.
Over 120,000 of the chargers have been sold throughout the United States. So far, there have been almost 25 consumer reports of the charger overheating, causing the Xbox controller to melt or to emit a burning odor. For these reasons, the distributor of the product, Performance Designed Products LLC, has voluntarily complied with the CPSC-mandated recall.
The battery chargers were sold at GameStop, Best Buy, online at Amazon.com as well as at other retailers. The affected model, with item number 048-052-NA (printed on the bottom of the charger), was sold between February of 2016 and 2017 for roughly $40.
The CPSC recommends immediately discontinuing any and all use of the charger. Consumers can receive a full product refund by contacting Performance Designed Products LLC. To prevent further consumer reports as well as the risk of injury, the company is complying with a Fast Track Recall. Fast Track Recalls are intended to get defective products off the shelves and out of consumer hands as quickly as possible.
