Congress is Ready to Attack Your Rights: How to Fight Back March 8, 2017
What happens when you are injured at work because of a defective machine or equipment? What happens when you are in your car and another driver, texting on their cell phone, blows through a stop sign and hits you or your family? What happens when you go to the doctor for a routine procedure that results in a medical mishap? Or, what happens when you take a prescribed drug that causes severe injuries – only to find out the drug manufacturer knew of the side effects but hid them from the public?
Injuries from these accidents have life-altering consequences. Your health, your job, your family, your home and your security are all at risk. When you are injured through no fault of your own, you have the right to seek justice in our courts.
Now, Congress — puppets to billion dollar corporations, bankers, insurance companies and lobbyists — is mounting an all out attack on your rights! Congress is preparing to debate legislation that will make it more difficult for you to pursue justice. Instead, it will benefit dangerous hospitals, reckless drivers, insurance companies and other wrongdoers.
However, our firm, and groups throughout the country, are coming together to make sure this doesn’t happen, not without a fight! The American Association for Justice (AAJ) has launched a grassroots campaign entitled “Take Justice Back”. The AAJ has the goal of holding the government accountable for people’s rights, as well as to work to keep people safe and ensure legal justice. With your rights at risk, the AAJ urges Americans to act now and fight back.
The bills that Congress are about to debate will have devastating consequences for ordinary folk. And, Congress is trying to do this as quickly and quietly as possible. Each bill has been pushed through the House Judiciary Committee without any hearings taking place. This is why it is especially important to understand the bills and to take steps towards the protection of your rights.
If passed, the legislation would:
- Limit compensation for injuries caused by medical professionals, including doctors, hospitals, nursing homes, and medical device manufacturers, to $250,000.00, regardless of how much that injury devastated your life or the extent of bad behavior by the medical professional or company. ;
- Eliminate class-action law suits, which would essentially destroy the ability to bring the kinds of cases that keep consumers safe;
- Eliminate individual state laws regarding lawsuits and force all cases to Federal Court;
- Allow insurance companies to make “payments” rather than paying full compensation.
So, what can you do to fight back? Go to the AAJ’s website and learn how to protect your rights: https://www.takejusticeback.com.
You can also contact Congress today, and tell them that they need to protect you and your family’s rights. It is important to voice your concerns to elected officials, telling them to vote NO on any and all anti-civil justice system bills.
