December 12, 2013 – Galfand Berger is honored to announce that attorneys Debra Jensen and Michael McGurrin received the Jim McHugh Memorial Award’s “Special Recognition and Appreciation Award.” USW Local 10-1 presented the award at its Second Annual Jim McHugh Memorial Awards Night and Celebration Dinner.
Mike and Deb received the award as a result of their steadfast commitment to the labor movement and, particularly, their dedication to representing USW Local 10-1.
The Jim McHugh Memorial Awards Night and Celebration Dinner honors the men, women and organizations that fought to save the Philadelphia refinery – and the thousands of direct and indirect jobs associated with this refinery. In 2012, the refinery faced the very real prospect of being shuttered after its then-owner, Sunoco, decided to close the plant. A new entity called Philadelphia Energy Solutions was formed. After some tough months of negotiation, Local 10-1 and Philadelphia Energy Solutions reached a new collective bargaining agreement, ratified by Local 10-1 on July 2, 2012.
