Earlier this month, Galfand Berger Senior Partner Michael Malvey attended a new citizen-screening clinic hosted by the New Americans Campaign (NAC) and co-hosted by the NAC’s partner Esperanza Immigration Legal Services, or EILS.
The New Americans Campaign is a non-profit organization with the primary goal of partnering with aspiring American citizens to help them navigate through the complex legal process of naturalization, as well as to create and sustain relationships between those individuals and trustworthy legal assistance programs. EILS’ mission is to strengthen Hispanic communities through education, advocacy and low-cost legal services, so the two organizations have much in common with one another.
As many as 9 million lawful residents – such as green card holders – are eligible for citizenship in the United States. Often, only one-tenth are granted citizenship every year. All eligible applicants are screened for their criminal background as well as their ability to speak English to ensure that they are able to pass the required testing to obtain U.S. citizenship.
Michael Malvey participated in the NAC and EILS’ naturalization clinic to help local residents maneuver through this often-confusing (and always quite costly) legal process. In addition to his work with the firm, Michael also currently sits as the Chair of the Board of Directors for EILS. If you would like to speak with Michael (who is proficient in Spanish) or a member of his legal team, please contact a representative at our firm directly.
