  • Gabriela Raful Participates in New Citizen Naturalization Ceremony

Philadelphia Workers' Compensation Lawyer, Gabriela Raful, Partner at Galfand Berger, Participates in New Citizen Naturalization CeremonyTwenty-seven immigrants from 13 different countries were naturalized as new United States citizens last month, and Galfand Berger partner Gabriela Raful was there to help commemorate the important event. The Berks County Bar Association sponsored the naturalization event, and for Gabby – herself a native of the Dominican Republic who immigrated to the U.S. in 2005 – it struck close to home.

Gabriela addressed the crowd during the ceremony, saying to the 27 individuals and others: “All of you found the courage to leave everything behind – your spouse, your children, your loved ones, to journey in the search for the American dream. What a remarkable journey you’ll have made.” And a “remarkable journey” it certainly is and will have been: according to the New Americans Campaign (NAC), there are as many as 9 million lawful residents (such as green card holders) living in the United States, but only one-tenth of them are granted citizenship every year.

The 27 individuals naturalized all had different stories and backgrounds. Some came from distant countries to give their children better opportunities, and others had been long separated from their family members who were already living here in the U.S. It took place at the Berks County Courthouse, which is located in Reading, Pennsylvania.

When Gabby and her husband first moved to the United States, they moved to Reading, PA. Even though she barely spoke English, Gabby began to learn the language and shortly later enrolled in college. Now as a partner at Galfand Berger, Gabby represents individuals who were injured at work or are disabled. Gabriela is fluent in Spanish and English, and is able to seamlessly navigate the legal process with Spanish-speaking clients who may sometimes be confronted with language barriers.

If you would like to speak with Gabriela in regard to legal questions you may have, or would like to find out more about any upcoming naturalization events in Reading, PA, please contact our firm directly and a representative will help guide you in the right direction.
