  • Consumer Alert: Resistance Workout Tubes from DICK’s Sporting Goods

Philadelphia Product Liability Lawyers alert consumers to recall on workout resistance bands. Dick’s Sporting Goods is complying with the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and recalling its resistance workout tubes because they cause serious injury hazards to consumers. Over 207,000 of the products are being recalled across the country and the CPSC hopes to alert consumers before anyone else sustains any type of injury.

Resistance tubes – also known as resistance bands – are a popular form of exercise equipment used primarily for strength training and various forms of physical therapy and muscle rehabilitation. The recalled products are made from latex and are called Fitness Gear resistance tubes. The recalled models include a variety of colors and resistance weight levels.

So far, the CPSC has received 12 reports of the resistance tubes breaking. In two cases, consumers received trauma injuries after being struck by the broken tubes. At least one individual was injured from falling when the tube broke. The resistance tubes were sold at DICK’s Sporting Goods stores as well as online through the retailer directly. They sold from September 2015 to August 2017 for anywhere between $15 and $80.

In 2011, DICK’s Sporting Goods recalled its Fitness Gear resistance tubes for different reasons. The CPSC recalled nearly 230,000 units for creating laceration, contusion and abrasion hazards – and at least four consumers were injured while using the dangerous products.

In order to comply with this most recent recall, the manufacturer is offering a full financial refund to any consumer who still has his or her sales receipt for the defective product in question. Individuals should be sure to bring the resistance tubes into the store for return. For consumers without their receipts, DICK’s is offering a store credit for the total balance.

If you own any Fitness Gear resistance tubes, you should discontinue using them immediately to avoid the risk of injury.
