Galfand Berger Attorney Deenah Kogan Provides Pro Bono Work For Philadelphia’s Expungement Clinic
Galfand Berger Attorney Deenah Z. Kogan recently took part in Philadelphia’s expungement clinic. This is a pro bono clinic held by the Philadelphia Bar Association’s Young Lawyers Division. It is offered annually, and is in partnership with the Office of the Mayor, the Office of the District Attorney, Community Legal Services and others.
This clinic helps hundreds of Philadelphians to obtain expungement petitions, allowing them to have certain offenses removed from their records, or allowing for their records to be sealed from the public. This helps people get jobs, education and improves their quality of life. Clinics like this also help to decrease recidivism, or one’s relapse into criminal behavior. Because of positive benefits like these, expungement clinics can greatly contribute to a community’s overall health and productivity.
Deenah offered her time to the clinic in order to help people in need and she also provided representation to clients in later pro bono hearings. Attorney Kogan has a longstanding history of pro bono work; she graduated law school with the Pro Bono Service Hours award, which reflects her dedication to community service. She has worked as a client advocate as well as a liaison for people with developmental disabilities. To read more about Deenah and learn more about her practice areas, please click here.
